Worldly Women of Travel: Interview with Sofia Bournatzi Part II

Tourism Awards in Athens, Greece

It is a delight to share Part II of Sofia Bournatzi’s interview in the Worldly Women of Travel Series.  In this post, she shares her TOP 10 most enjoyable travel experiences.  Enjoy!

Per November 2024 Interview

I believe that the first memory that comes to mind when we remember a journey is the strongest one, the memory that connects us with the destination forever.

My top 10 most enjoyable travel experiences are:

  1. Being a guest at a wedding in Crete, tasting the 8-course dinners and listening to Cretan live music.
  2. Walking along the Amsterdam canals and viewing the sea while it is raining. So much water and yet nobody stays inside.
  3. Shopping at the Galleries Lafayette in Paris on the first day of the winter sales with half of the city’s population.
  4. Enjoying a candlelight dinner inside the Vasa Museum in Stockholm next to a preserved 17th century huge Viking ship.
  5. Dancing at Gattopardo in Milan, an old, deconsecrated church that was transformed into a club.
  6. Listening to classical music and Christmas songs from the street bands at Covent Garden Market in London.
  7. Drinking a cocktail onboard while the cruise ship was passing through the Dardanelles Strait in Istanbul, Turkey.
  8. Coffee chat with a German professor sitting next to me, at Alexander Platz in Berlin.
  9. Standing on the top of the Belgrade Fortress in Serbia, viewing the city that was involved in 115 wars, was destroyed and rebuilt 44 times.
  10. Singing hymns with the oldest boys’ choir in Germany, in the Aachen Cathedral, in front of the tomb of Emperor Charlemagne.

What amazing travel experiences! With Sofia’s inspiration, my travel list continues to grow.  Thank you, Sofia, for sharing your travel perspectives and this incredible TOP 10.
